Objectives
TERAIN aims to provide rigorous, transparent, and relevant analytics about the real environmental risks of facilities, companies, and regions by analysing the emission, discharge, and transfer of multiple toxicants and pollutants.
We use real data on corporate pollutans extracted from the mandatory PRTRs of multiple countries to create 27 propietary environmental impact scores, and to provide multiple indexes that reflect the environmental risks of each facility, company, and region in our database.
Focus on Real Environmental Impacts
We do not consider “intention statements”, “announcements”, or “good wills”. We only work with real data on the multiple pollutants, toxic emissions, and discharges related to each industrial facility, company, and region.
Reliable Sources Only
We do not acknowledge rumours, posts, corporate letters, advertisements, or the news. We only work with data from the official Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTRs) around the world. The PRTRs contain compulsory data provided by facilities to regulators.
Comparability
We sought to assess environmental risks comparing historical evolution, associates and related facilities, competitors, industry averages, among others. To make it possible, we aggregate pollutants by using research based methods to create our environmental impact scores.
Methodological Rigor
We explain clearly what we do, the methodology we use, and the benefits of our analysis. We recognize that environmental risks are difficult to track, but we make a difference by providing a detailed description of our processes and indexes.
Relevant Outputs for Decision Makers
Our final indexes are designed to be easily understood by any interested actors. Our indexes can be useful for multiple decision makers, including executives, regulators, academics, investors, activists, and consumers. While you can obtain long lists of corporate pollutants from different databases, usually, they do not include the information to make sense of them. At TERAIN, we are ready to translate them for you.
